A 40-year-old man is facing assault and sexual assault charges after an incident involving a woman and girl at a west Edmonton transit centre, and police believe there could be more victims.

Just before 7:50 a.m. on Sept. 29, officers were called to the Jasper Place transit terminal on Stony Plain Road for a reported sexual assault, said police in a news release on Friday.

According to reports, the 40-year-old man approached a woman asking her to shake his hand and give him a hug. When the woman refused, he made attempts to touch her, said police.

A woman bystander intervened, and the man began to shout at the woman, and then he approached a girl and pushed himself into her, attempting to kiss her, before the woman intervened a second time.
