A fire in Park Rapids damaged a local bar and claimed the life of one of the owners' dogs.

The Park Rapids Fire Department says it received a report of a fire at the Bully Barn Bar on at 17523 County Road 18 just before 6 a.m. Thursday morning.

At the scene, crews found fire coming out of the entire western side of the Bully Barn. Occupants of the building were found safe in an adjacent yard, according to the department.

Fire crews from the Nevis and Menagha fire departments were called in to assist at the scene. Crews learned that one dog was believed to be still inside the building.

Two searches for the dog were unsuccessful, and the building eventually had to be abandoned due to the fire conditions.
