Foreign Cinema on Mission Street has been an iconic spot for a nice evening out in San Francisco since its opening more than 25 years ago. Walking through the entrance, down the long hallway to the beautiful courtyard, gallery and restaurant, it’s easy to miss the swinging door off to the side.
I know because I’ve missed it every time I’ve eaten at Foreign Cinema over the years. For the first time on a recent afternoon, though, I walked through that door into Laszlo, the restaurant’s sister bar.
The space is compact, with a second floor that includes opera-box-style booths, where patrons can look out onto the bar below. Decked out with classic movie posters in languages ranging from English to Polish to Russian, and a classic movie playing on a small television while another is projected
