Banff and Waterton officials considering how to deal with traffic with Canada free entry

Banff and Waterton officials welcomed the news Friday that the federal government is renewing the Canada Strong Pass.

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that the popular program, which gave Canadians free admission to places run by Parks Canada from June 20 to Sept. 2, is being renewed from Dec. 12 to Jan. 15, and next summer.

Banff Mayor Corrie DiManno said town officials, who are trying to grow winter visitation, were excited by its renewal for the holiday season.

“We see it as a great opportunity to welcome folks that want to come ski, ice skate and just enjoy our overall winter wonderland,” DiManno said Friday.
