COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL ) – A 26-year-old Opelika man made his first court appearance on Friday. He was charged with a home invasion and murder in North Columbus.

Antanavious Butler is accused of killing 65-year-old Norman Lane early Monday morning inside his Brookstone home.

A much clearer picture of what led to Norman Lane’s death and Butler’s arrest was painted by the Columbus Police. But one thing remains unclear: what, if any, connection did the suspect have to the deceased?

Our Chuck Williams was in Recorder’s Court and heard what CPD's Detective Justin Doll said during the hearing.

“Officers discovered Mr. Lane's deceased body inside with apparent multiple gunshot wounds from the shotgun," said Detective Justin Doll. "The scene showed signs of forced entry. No suspects were present.
