BEAUMONT, Texas — Jefferson County Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens announced Friday he will seek re-election to the bench he has held since 2007.
Judge Stevens, a Democrat, made the announcement confirming his plans to run for another term on the Criminal District Court.
Before his judicial service, Stevens worked as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Texas from 1985 to 2005.
He was an associate attorney at Provost & Umphrey, LLP from 1981 to 1985. Stevens began his legal career as an assistant criminal district attorney from 1979 to 1981.
Judge Stevens was elected to the Criminal District Court in 2006 and has presided over more than 500 jury trials in Jefferson County.
Judge Stevens is being challenged by Republican Luke Nichols for the seat.
