BUFFALO — It was tough sledding on opening night for the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday as they fell to the New York Rangers 4-0.

Ultimately, many of the same problems that plagued Buffalo in recent years plagued it again in the loss, but there was some reason to believe better days are ahead.
