KALAMAZOO- The Ferris State Hockey team spoiled the celebratory opening night for the defending National Champion Western Michigan Broncos.

New head coach Brett Riley led the Bulldogs to a 3-2 win over the top-ranked team in the nation on Thursday in his first win at the helm.

The win marked FSU’s first since 2017 over the Broncos, and the team’s first win over a defending national champion since 2005.

The two teams will square off in a rematch in Big Rapids at 7:07 p.m. on Friday.
