LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Department of Correctional Services announced the death of an inmate at Lincoln’s Reception and Treatment Center.

According to NDCS, 37-year-old Tony Perez died at a Lincoln hospital on Friday.

Perez’s sentence began on Aug. 15, 2023. He was serving six to 16 years for attempt to deliver a controlled substance and theft by receiving stolen property - both out of Lancaster County.

The cause of death has not yet been determined. As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
