Doors were locked at Doherty Memorial High School in Worcester as the school was “placed in a secure position” on Friday due to Worcester police officers trying to arrest an assault suspect in the area, department spokesperson Joseph Cersosimo told MassLive.

When a school is in a secure position, that means the building’s external doors are locked and all outdoor activities are paused but classes continue, according to Worcester Public Schools spokesperson Daniel O’Brien.

Cersosimo said the school was in this situation for 5 minutes as police managed to arrest the suspect without further incident.

Police did not say who the suspect is or what they are being charged with.

O’Brien said the situation lasted from 1:41 p.m. to 1:46 p.m.
