ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The suspect in a deadly hit-and-run that killed University of New Mexico Hospital employee Alec Montoya made his first appearance in court Friday afternoon. According to the criminal complaint, Brian Boyce stopped his car after hitting Montoya and stayed at the scene of the accident. He was taken to the hospital to treat minor injuries, but later fled the building. Boyce was arrested at his home later that night and charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

Investigators believe he was traveling at a very high rate of speed and changing lanes in the intersection when he struck Montoya. That investigation is ongoing.

The defense questioned the charge of leaving the scene of an accident, saying he didn't leave the scene but fled from the hospital. Judge Mich
