ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. —

In Anderson County, there was a large response from police, fire, and EMS officials. Anderson County School District Five held its mass casualty event training today. School official says the training helps to minimize casualties during an active threat event.

First responders from various agencies rushed into a school blind, meaning they had no knowledge of the layout of the school and no idea of what waited ahead. Shannon Piller is the district's Executive Director for Safety and Security. He says it takes courage to go inside.

"Unfortunately, in this country, we've had some, some law enforcement officers not go into a school shooting situation like this," Piller said. "Shouldn't be cops if you're not doing that."
