LIGONIER, Pa. —

Fort Ligonier Days officially kicked off Friday afternoon. The yearly tradition that dates back centuries will draw thousands of people to eastern Westmoreland County.

Friday saw many people crowding Main Street already. A lot of those people have been coming to the festival for as long as they can remember. Advertisement

"I’ve been coming to Fort Ligonier Days for 65 years," Beth Caldwell said. "It’s just great. It’s community, the renewal of friendships, and seeing people I haven’t seen in forever."

Nick DeMatteo raised his family in the little town.

"We’ve been coming to Ligonier Days for years and years," he said. "When me and my wife got married in Jeannette, we moved to Ligonier. Our kids grew up in Ligonier. At one time, we owned a small business in town."
