A monarch butterfly’s life was saved after one of its broken wings was repaired with the help of a New York nature centre.
The migratory pollinator will now be able to make the trek thousands of kilometres south to either Florida or Mexico for the winter.
Earlier this month, Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown on Long Island shared video of the procedure to social media.
The private not-for-profit centre has a wildlife rehabilitation clinic for injured, sick and orphaned animals.
“When a Good Samaritan called to ask if we could help an injured monarch butterfly, we didn’t hesitate,” the centre wrote Oct. 2 on Instagram . “She brought it in, and we got to work.”
