MACON, Ga. — Tequaila Reid, a mother of five, fears a government shutdown could cut off the nutrition assistance programs that help her feed her children while she battles breast cancer.
Reid, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in January, can no longer work because of her illness and has no other income. This year, she went months without Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and struggled to get by. The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) has helped her maintain a balanced diet critical for her health.
"There are days that the WIC being present was all I had to rely on until some funds came through," Reid said. "I need that. Currently with the food stamps and the surgery coming up ... I need that and if that gets cut that
