MADISON (WKOW) -- A new record was set during the 13th Fill the Hill fundraising event at UW-Madison.

Fill the Hill is sponsored by the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA). During the event, donors make gifts to support students at UW-Madison, and plastic pink flamingos are placed on Bascom Hill to represent each donor gift.

This year's campaign ran until 5 p.m. Friday. Just after it ended, the WFAA said the campaign engaged more than 100 campus areas and secured $737,849 through 4,359 individual gifts. A few more gifts came in after that. As of 6 p.m. Friday, the event's website showed more than 4,380 gifts and about $741,600 raised.

Since it began, Fill the Hill has raised approximately $4.5 million through more than 25,000 gifts, according to the WFAA.
