A bat that recently bit a person in St. Clair County has tested positive for rabies, local officials said Friday.

According to a St. Clair County Health Department press release, the person who was bitten by the animal "has been identified and referred for appropriate medical treatment."

Officials did not provide any identifying information about the bite victim, including age, sex or hometown.

According to the release, the county health department was notified by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services that the bat, which was found in a St. Clair County home, had tested positive for the potentially fatal disease.
