BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Breast cancer affects 2.3 million people worldwide, which is why every October we wear pink.

A month to support those who have fought and are fighting breast cancer, it’s also a time to educate and encourage people about the risk and the importance of regular screenings.

According to the American Cancer Society, other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer women are diagnosed with in the United States.

Scientists say that early detection can significantly improve survival rates.

“At age 45 is really when us here at the American Cancer Society really highly recommends that women begin getting their annual breast exam, which is of course a mammography,” said Angela Giaquinto, an associate scientist at the American Cancer Society.
