‘I always knew Dumbleyung rocked, but not in that context’ says chief executive after small earthquake

An earthquake struck south-east of Dumbleyung on Wednesday evening, registering a magnitude of 2.4.

The quake hit at 9.42pm and had a depth of 1.2km.

It was located between Coomelberrup and River Roads.

Shire of Dumbleyung chief executive Gavin Treasure said he was not aware of the quake at the time.

“I always knew that Dumbleyung rocked, but not in that context,” he said.

“We don’t have processes and procedures in place for earthquakes, but should we ever feel an impact we would report it to the proper authorities as part of our monitoring regime.”

Geoscience Australia asks anyone who noticed the quake to submit a felt report so the organisation can better understand their intensity.

On average, two earthquakes above magnitude 3.0 occur each week somewhere in Australia.
