WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump’s Justice Department said the indictment of New York state Attorney General Letitia James is proof that no one is above the law.
But James’ supporters say she’s a victim of a malicious, politically motivated prosecution — an argument her attorney is expected to make in seeking a dismissal of the charges.
One legal expert said it is possible the case may not even make it to trial.
For some Republicans, Thursday’s indictment accusing James of mortgage fraud is a vindication.
“Just a diabolical public servant, one who's willing to stop at nothing, to selectively prosecute, to attack the president,” Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-Watertown, told Spectrum News.
