An artwork that's sapphire jewellery by day and ornamental lamp at night has won a major design award.
The Noctua lamp by artist Cinnamon Lee works by projecting light through a sapphire brooch, created with layers of perforated metal.
The brooch can be removed for wearing, showing off its sparkling jewels, then reattached to the lamp using magnets.
Noctua has won the $35,000 MAKE Award for innovation, Australia's richest non-acquisitive prize for craft and design.
"It means a lot to me to be recognised, because there's not a lot of recognition, especially in Australia, of the highly crafted object," Lee said.
"The art world is swamped by contemporary art, and it's really important that craftspeople who actually make everything by hand are recognised."
