The Huntsville City Council voted Thursday at City Hall to accept $20 million in federal funding for the $78 million Pinhook Creek-Skybridge project.
City Urban and Economic Development Director Shane Davis said the funding is for construction only. While Skybridge gets most of the attention, he noted it is “a very, very small portion of the project.”
He also said the grant funding cannot be diverted for other purposes. Davis said Huntsville will lose the federal funding if it is not used for its intended purpose.
The funding is from a Fiscal 2022 U.S. Department of Transportation RAISE (Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity) grant. The project, officially known as the Pedestrian Access and Redevelopment Corridor (PARC) Project.
