The city worker strike in Philadelphia this summer was a costly one for taxpayers. The mayor revealed that the work stoppage cost the city almost $5.2 million. Members of District Council 33 walked the picket line for eight days in July. During the strike, the biggest cost to the city was for extra expenses like hauling away trash and overtime for nonunion workers.
