(CAROLINA SPORTS LIVE) -- One of the greatest basketball players to come out of North Carolina showed some love to his hometown this week.

Hall-of-Famer James Worthy posted on X a photo of him wearing a hat that heads “Straight Outta Gastonia.” The phrase is a nod to the famous song by ‘90s rap group NWA, ‘Straight Outta Compton.”

“Don’t get it twisted... straight out of the “Gas House,” the 64-year-old wrote.

Worthy, who won a national championship with UNC in 1982 and three NBA championships with the LA Lakers, is proud to call Gastonia home. Before playing for Dean Smith in Chapel Hill, he was a star at Ashbrook High School, where he was a Parade and McDonald’s All-American.

Worthy was the No. 1 overall pick in 1982 and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003.
