SWAMPSCOTT — On the first chilly Friday night of the fall, Swampscott took down previously undefeated Gloucester, 28-22, at Blocksidge Field.

Both teams were different stylistically, with Swampscott (3-2) running a pro-style, spread, four receiver offense, while Gloucester (5-1) ran a smash-mouth, Wing-T offense. Swampscott head coach Peter Bush said his team benefited from a bye week and that helped the Big Blue capture the upset victory.

“We had the bye week to get healthy after a tough loss to Melrose,” Bush said. “Credit to Gloucester, they’re very well coached. But we made the plays when we needed to. Still a lot to clean up, but very proud of the kids and coaches today.”
