The New South Wales government seeks to reduce aggressive behaviour and sexual assaults on the streets of the state meaning venues will no longer have to turn drunken revellers out to the streets under a proposed liquor law change.
The Liquor and Gaming guideline update will see night-spot managers encouraged to keep drunken patrons inside their venues until they sober up or can safely return home in a car.
The change intends to safeguard vulnerable patrons – particularly inebriated women, at risk of sexual assaults on the street – and to prevent alcohol-fuelled violence on the streets.
Venues have been required to eject unruly, drunken patrons, at the risk of their liquor license; the change, however, will provide them with a second option.
