The Portland Thorns let an opportunity to move closer to a playoff spot slip away on the road Friday in second-half stoppage time as the Orlando Pride nabbed a late goal to steal a 1-0 victory.

In the 92nd minute of a match that featured a flurry of scoring chances for both teams, the hosts finally broke through on a corner kick by Orlando’s 39-year-old star, Marta.

Marta’s kick curled in toward the goal and Portland defender Mallie McKenzie collided with goalkeeper Mackenze Arnold, with the ball glancing off McKenzie and bouncing into the net for what was ruled an own goal.
