A shallow magnitude 7.4 earthquake has killed at least seven people in the Philippines, officials have confirmed, just days after a deadly tremor devastated the country.
The earthquake hit the Southern Philippines on Friday, local officials confirmed, prompting tsunami warnings across the Pacific.
The quake comes less than two weeks after another deadly earthquake struck the central Philippines, killing at least 79 people and injuring hundreds.
Authorities said Friday’s earthquake, measuring a preliminary magnitude of 6.8, was caused by movement along the same fault line, the Philippine Trench, at a depth of 37 kilometres off the coast of Manay in Davao Oriental province.
The United States National Tsunami Warning Center also issued alerts for parts of Indonesia and Palau, with waves e
