The Eastwood Troopers defeated El Paso's No. 1-ranked team, Franklin, 49-26, in a key District 1-6A showdown at Franklin High School.

The Troopers never trailed and led 35-14 at the half behind four touchdown passes by quarterback Kingston Jeffries.

Eastwood improves to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in district. Franklin falls to 5-2 overall abd 2-1 in district.

Franklin senior running back Ernie Powers scored four touchdowns, giving him 38 for the season.

Franklin takes on Socorro and Eastwood takes on Pebble Hills in district play on Friday, Oct. 17.
