Columbus Day is the next federal holiday, recognized on the second Monday of October, which falls on Oct. 13 this year.

President Donald Trump gave his unequivocal support to Columbus Day this year signed a proclamation doubling down on Columbus Day, saying critics of the holiday are slandering "the original American hero."

Some states and cities switched in recent years celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day instead of Columbus Day in light of Columbus's legacy of colonization. Former President Joe Biden issued several proclamations in support of Indigenous Peoples' Day.

In his declaration, Trump offered in unequivocal support for Columbus Day.
