Commissioners vote to request nuclear study funding from legislature

As electricity demand continues to increase, driven primarily by large-load users like data centers, Oklahoma lawmakers passed a bill in 2025 requiring the Oklahoma Corporation Commission to conduct and submit a nuclear energy study by March 9, 2026.

The regulatory body now plans to outsource the study mandated by Senate Bill 130 to a consultant, and is looking to the legislature for a supplemental appropriation to fund it.
