Maine (WABI) - As the government shutdown continues, federal workers in Maine are feeling the impact.
“I got three-quarters of my check, and in two weeks I’m not going to get any check,” Christine Lizotte, a social security worker in Auburn, told our media partner, WMTW.
Lizotte is the secretary and treasurer of AFGE Local 1164, a union representing social security workers throughout New England. She says she has been helping members figure out how to pay their bills while working without pay.
“They’re trying to figure out, how do I navigate this? How do I pay my mortgage without the money?” she said. “How do I make sure that I have childcare covered and gas covered? Because we’re still working. We’re still coming into work every day, packing a lunch and buying gas, in order to be here
