Palakkad: Following the increasing number of attacks on doctors, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Palakkad branch has launched a scheme to provide pepper sprays for self defense.
“It has come to a situation where doctor’s, be it in the private sector or government sectors have no security in their own work spaces. The number of incidents are increasing we have reached an alarming state where self defense has become inevitable”, said Dr Vinayak, senior psychiatrist, Kristhuraja hospital.
IMA officials clarified that the initiative is intended solely to ensure personal safety during emergency situations involving threats of assault. The association also said the move aims to highlight the need for institutional mechanisms to protect healthcare workers.
