Rangers are holding further talks with various candidates this weekend as they continue their search for Russell Martin’s replacement.

Sky Sports News understands discussions with former manager Steven Gerrard progressed well over the past two days, as the Gers hierarchy laid out their plans for the club.

The 45-year-old is thought to be open to the idea of returning to Glasgow, four years after departing for Aston Villa.

He would likely bring Gary McAllister back to the club as part of his backroom team and former Rangers striker Jermain Defoe, while ex-England coach Steve Holland has been sounded out too.

Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has also impressed Ibrox chiefs during the process and remains in the race for the job.
