The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 10.5 kilograms of gold worth ₹12.58 crore. As a part of an operation codenamed Operation Golden Sweep, the authorities have apprehended foreign nationals, Mumbai airport staffers and other members of an international gold smuggling syndicate.
The DRI carried out this task at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMI) Airport, Mumbai. The seized gold amounting to 10.488 kg of 24 karat foreign-origin gold is valued at approximately ₹12.58 crore.
This comes at a time when the price of the yellow metal has hit a record high mark of $4,000 per ounce in the international market.
