ST. JOHNS – Looking for the ultimate lawn ornament? Or a Christmas gift story that will be told for generations? St. Johns Fire Department staff are confident they have an idea that will make a great conversation starter, assuming you have a spacious lawn, or a very large garage. The city is selling one of its ladder trucks, seized engine included, to the highest bidder in a sealed-bid auction. Ladder 350, which includes an 80-foot ladder, a diesel generator and a four-door cab, broke down in June of this year, leading to the auction. The current high bid , as of the morning of Oct. 11, is $1,400. Sheridan Realty & Auction Co. is handling the auction. Bidding is open until 1 p.m. Oct. 14.
