ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Two local heroes are celebrating milestones that go far beyond birthdays.
This weekend, the community gathered to honor two World War II veterans who turned 100 and 101 years old, a powerful reminder of the sacrifices that shaped our nation’s freedom.
An outpouring of love and gratitude filled Mission BBQ on Saturday as friends, family, and community members celebrated John Eakin, who just turned 101, and Marion Noel, who turned 100.
Both men proudly served during World War II, carrying stories of courage that span oceans and decades.
John Eakin was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944 at just 19 years old. He served with the 34th Division in Northern Italy, earning the Bronze Star Medal for his bravery. After returning home, he built a life in Virginia as a husband
