The UCLA Nikkei Student Union is proud to announce the return of its annual fall basketball tournament, the Yuji Ichioka Memorial (YIM) Tournament, on Nov. 8-9 at UCLA’s John Wooden Center.
NSU at UCLA organizes social and community service activities as well as promoting Japanese American cultural and political awareness among the student body.
NSU’s YIM Tournament honors the life and legacy of Yuji Ichioka (1936-2002), an Asian American civil rights activist and UCLA professor. As a pioneer of Asian American studies, Ichioka became a prominent voice and guiding figure in advancing Japanese American history. His activism has continued to inspire new generations of students and members of the community.
