What intrigues me most about Mike Duggan's independent campaign for governor is its potential to put the first significant crack in the political duopoly.

The Republican and Democratic parties are failing America, and I fear their singular focus on gaining and maintaining partisan power will lead the nation to its ruin.

We're now approaching the second week of a government shutdown brought on by the inability of the hyper-partisans to do the basic job of passing a budget. Rather than weighing the damage to their citizens, they are calculating the political advantage to be gained from our anger and misery. Chuck Schumer's gleeful assessment that the longer the shutdown goes on, the better it is for Democrats, sums up the sorry state of our politics.
