FARGO — Ruby Leach is headed to the state tournament.

The East Grand Forks Senior High girls tennis player finished second at the Minnesota Section 8A singles tournament Saturday at Courts Plus Fitness Center, earning one of the section's two spots at state.

Leach is the first Green Wave player to reach the state singles tournament since Chessa Jones in 2015.

"I'm excited to go down to Minneapolis," Leach said. "It's always been my goal since Day 1."

Leach, a senior, dominated her first three rounds at the Section 8A tournament to reach the final.

Leach beat Elizabeth Desrosiers of Roseau 6-0, 6-1 in the first round. Then, she topped Cailin Jensen of Parkers Prairie 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and beat Tegan Pray of Thief River Falls 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals.
