Before Cal Raleigh became an MVP-level slugger this season, the Blue Jays knew all about him.
Raleigh led the majors with 60 home runs — an all-time record for a catcher — and posted a .948 on-base-plus-slugging percentage that ranked third in the American League, behind only the Yankees’ Aaron Judge and the Jays’ George Springer. It was a breakthrough year for the switch-hitter known affectionately as Big Dumper (his previous career highs having been 34 homers and a .774 OPS) but it wasn’t news to the Jays.
