HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Remember the defensive woes Marshall coach Tony Gibson vowed to fix after a double-overtime loss to Louisiana where the Ragin’ Cajuns won with 54 points? Gibson is a man of his word.
Whatever the kinks, the Thundering Herd got them ironed out over a two-week break and put the improved version on display Saturday against Old Dominion. Two goal-line stands, a pick six and a fumble recovery — all in the first half. Not done, the Herd recovered another fumble on an ODU muffed punt return in the third period and later denied the Monarchs a first on a fourth-down try at its 33. In the fourth, the defense would get another pick. The Herd would total 31 points off ODU turnovers.
