This week, when first-year mechanical engineering students of Jodhpur’s Mugneeram Bangur Memorial (MBM) University received their results for an exam taken in May, they were astounded –100-mark practical and sessional papers, several students had scored an impossible 137.

The inflated scores were for an exam taken by some 800 students. According to officials, the results released on October 7 showed that several students scored between 103 and 137 in multiple subjects. The marks allotted failed to tally, prompting students to flag the discrepancies.

The results were taken down within the hour, officials said.
