NEW ORLEANS — Helena Moreno has won the New Orleans mayoral race, becoming the second woman in New Orleans history to be elected to the city's top position.
Around 10 p.m., Moreno had 55% of the vote, defeating State Senator Royce Duplessis (22%) and City Councilmember Oliver Thomas (18%), according to WWL's unofficial election results.
WWL Louisiana political analyst Clancy Dubos was the first to call the race.
As mayor, Moreno has pledged to tackle the city's infrastructure woes, improve public safety, and support small and minority-owned businesses.
