DURGAPUR: A second-year medical student was allegedly gang-raped by four-five unknown men outside the institute campus in Durgapur on Friday evening shortly after she went out for dinner with a male classmate. Cops have detained the classmate after the girl's parents, who hail from Balasore in Odisha, alleged he and his associates were behind the crime. The 23-year-old survivor is currently admitted in hospital. Based on her complaint, police have registered a case of gang rape and started an investigation. Her statement has been recorded and the male students is being questioned. According to the complaint, the rape happened between 8.30 pm and 9 pm in a desolate spot around 1.5 km from campus.
