A potentially catastrophic incident was averted in Umsning market when a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detected and diffused by the Ri Bhoi police team.

According to SP V Rathore, the police received a source information at approximately 7:30 PM on Saturday about an abandoned bag containing suspected explosives inside an unidentified compound in the market area.

Acting swiftly, the police team launched an operation and detected the bag inside a compound located in front of the Meghalaya Rural Bank.

The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and K-9 team were immediately requisitioned and confirmed the presence of explosives in the bag.

With expertise, the BDDS team successfully diffused the IED.
