NEW ALBANY, Ind. —
A Floyd County sheriff’s deputy was honored Saturday after saving a woman’s life during the Harvest Homecoming festival in southern Indiana.
It happened Friday when Officer Anthony Whelan responded to a woman found unconscious and without a heartbeat.
“I began performing CPR Life-Saving measures on the elderly woman who is there. Until fire and EMS showed up. Once, fire EMS showed up. I turned the scene over to them,” Whelan said.
The woman was transported to Baptist Health, left with a heartbeat, and is now in stable condition.
“We don't always see the best outcome. Just due to the nature of our job, and things that happen. But, I mean, it feels great. I'm glad that she's OK,” Whelan said.
