WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is following through with the promise that federal workers will be fired as the government shutdown continues.
The Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Russ Vought posted on X Friday, "RIFs have begun." He was referring to the formal term for the layoffs: reduction in force.
A spokesperson for OMB confirmed that the layoffs are "substantial," but that an official number of layoffs or agencies impacted has not been released by the Trump administration.
The layoffs are reportedly only targeting federal employees who have been deemed non-essential and that are currently furloughed as a result of the government shutdown.
The Associated Press has reported that employees at the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of
