Afghanistan suffered a major setback on Saturday, October 11, during the second ODI against Bangladesh when veteran batter Rahmat Shah injured his calf while running to the opposite end for a quick single. The accident happened in the 15th over of the match when he seemed to be in pain after trying a quick single. Unable to move normally, Rahmat was forced to retire hurt and off the field.

Though hopes were raised that he could come back during the course of the innings, Rahmat’s condition deteriorated. He returned to bat following the ninth wicket to fall in the 45th over, but was hardly able to stand and survived only one delivery before going down clutching at his left ankle in agony.
