Veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram on Saturday described Operation Blue Star, the 1984 Indian Army action at the Golden Temple in Amritsar to evict Sikh separatists, as “the wrong way” to secure the temple. He said former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who had approved the operation, “paid the price of that mistake with her life,” but stressed that she should not be solely blamed as the decision was “cumulative” involving the Army, police, intelligence, and civil services.
